Description
The history of disco in 1980 and 1981 is a messy one. It was as if two worlds collided: the classic disco of the seventies and the more electronic sound of the eighties. But musically, it was also a super interesting time.
That’s what I’ve translated into this week’s set.
The first half hour is pure electronic disco, starting with Madleen Kane and followed by a few more Moroder productions. In the second part, we combine classic-sounding disco with tracks and artists that were already experimenting with what could come next, including Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Material and Cristina.
All three came out of the New York scene, and both Kid Creole’s “Darrio” and Cristina’s “Temporarily Yours” loudly make fun of disco stereotypes while still using the disco beat in a very classic set-up.
There’s a lot to experience in this week’s episode. So no, you won’t have time to sit down.
