Description
This week’s mixtape heads straight into the mid-eighties, starting with the rock-R&B fusion of Philip Bailey & Phil Collins’ “Easy Lover” from 1984.
It’s a great example of what was essentially an AOR song getting a proper dancefloor treatment, thanks to John Potoker’s remix. The result? A record that not only scored big on the pop charts but also found its way onto the dancefloor.
And that sets the tone for the rest of the mix.
It’s partly dance-rock, partly dance-pop and synth-pop, with plenty of that unmistakable mid-eighties sound. Simple Minds, ABC, Talk Talk, Sting, Duran Duran and Depeche Mode provide some familiar moments, but I also dig a little deeper, especially in the middle section of the set.
And with the BPM sitting around 128, this isn’t exactly a chill session. 😁
So you’d better move the tables and chairs and give yourself some room to swing.
