Description
Venus & Bananarama is my gateway into a deeper dive through the European and Eurodance sound of the mid-eighties. The beats and production style that defined that era were used by an incredibly wide range of artists and records, from Bros to D.A.F. and Hello. They all fitted perfectly into the musical mould I had in mind for this week’s mix.
You’ll hear some of the big dancefloor classics alongside deeper cuts like Cry Cry Cry by Two Minds Crack and Do The Dance by Trance Dance. One of the key inspirations behind the Stock, Aitken & Waterman sound was Italo disco, so it only made sense to include a number of Italo gems from Sandy Marton, Shy Rose and Fancy.
The finale moves from the dancefloor power of The Great Divide by Portion Control into The Great Commandment by Camouflage and closes with that fantastic Ben Liebrand remix of The Eve Of The War.
