This week’s mix is a truly eclectic blend, reminiscent of the sets I played in the early eighties. It combines New Wave, No Wave, Post-Disco, early Synth Pop, New Romantics, and early Rap—a reflection of the melting pot that defined the era’s vibrant music scene.
We start with the 12-inch version of Coati Mundi, transitioning into Stool Pigeon by Kid Creole & The Coconuts, a hit inspired by Me No Pop I. Next, The Police and Talking Heads bring their rhythmic experimentation, making their tracks staples in my sets.
The second half leans into early Synth Pop, featuring Blancmange, Ministry, Pete Shelley, and Fad Gadget’s Coitus Interruptus, a dance floor favorite when knew the lyrics to by heart. The mix closes with Peter Godwin and Ronnie, the Belgian femme fatale who, despite only releasing a few singles, became a Rusty Egan favorite at The Blitz.
