Description
This week’s mixtape begins with ABC’s The Look Of Love, opening with the single version before slipping seamlessly into the US dub, released in Europe as the “Special Remix”. From there, we stay in Sheffield with another of the city’s defining bands, The Human League and Hard Times, before The Thompson Twins complete the opening trilogy with In The Name Of Love.
The first section journeys through some of the finest synth-pop of the era, including gems from Heaven 17, Ministry, Leisure Process and Pete Shelley. The middle stretch heads firmly onto the dancefloor with a series of club favourites heavily influenced by the Brit-funk scene. Even Spandau Ballet gets involved, backed by Brit-funk musicians on Chant No. 1, presented here in its longer, dub-infused remix.
The final part shifts back toward dance-pop, featuring Falco, Kajagoogoo and Fiction Factory, among others, before bringing this celebration of Britain’s endlessly inventive 1982 to a close.
Enjoy!
