This week’s mix opens, naturally, with Beat Box. Not the version from the first EP Into Battle With The Art Of Noise, but “Diversion One”, released a few months later as a standalone single.
Trevor Horn is all over this mix. He produced the second track, Malcolm McLaren’s Buffalo Gals, as well as the two Propaganda cuts included here. You can even hear him performing on The Buggles’ On TV, taken from their second album.
There’s also a strong Italo disco thread running through the selection. As we saw last week, the dialogue between UK synth-pop and Italian productions went both ways. So it’s no surprise that Miko Mission, Gaznevada, Savage, Valerie Dore and Vivien Vee slot in so seamlessly.
