The Twelve Inch 195 : I'm A Wonderfull Thing, Baby : Post-Disco/Post-Punk/No Wave - 1982

This is the final new episode of 2025. After this one, The Twelve Inch will take a short Friday break until 9 January. That said, you’ll still see me pop up in your feed: I’ll be sharing my favourite moments from this first season, mixed in with fresh instalments of my sonic-lounge side project, Let the Beat Be Your Guide.

For the last episode of the year, I wanted to do something special. This mix is built around “I’m a Wonderful Thing, Baby” by Kid Creole & The Coconuts — a track that wasn’t new wave, electro, hip-hop, R’n’B, disco or Latin… it was somehow all of them at once. And that’s exactly the spirit of this mix: a trip back to 1982, when I felt completely free to blend any (sub)genre as long as it worked on the dancefloor. The result? One hell of a ride — and then some.
