Robert Palmer wasn’t the only pop/rock artist dipping into (synth)funk territory in the mid-eighties. This mix features a few others who followed suit, including Sheena Easton with “Do It For Love,” Hall & Oates’ “Possession Obsession,” and Austria’s own Falco with the excellent “Junge Roemer.”
The bulk of the mix is packed with some of the finest synth-funk tracks that lit up radio airwaves and dancefloors during that era. Legends like La Toya Jackson, Stephanie Mills, Rick James, Midnight Star, and Kool & The Gang need no introduction. I also make a quick hop into Britfunk, with gems from Princess, Junior, and an extended version of Level 42’s “Micro Kid.”
