The Twelve Inch 114 : The Magnificent Seven : New Wave/Post-Punk/Synth-Pop - 1981

The Blog on Substack tells the story of The Magnificent Seven. How The Clash stayed in New-York to record their fourth album "Sandinista" and got influenced by the cross-pollination of the different music genres into a Wonderfull & creative dance music production.
To quote Bowie in the second song in the mix "It's A Brand New Dance But We Don't Know It's Name".
I could have gone on two different tangents when starting with The Maginifect Seven :
1. a deep dive in the nascent NY hip-hop or
2. a deep dive in the post-punk/new wave/Synth-Pop from the US & Europe.
I chose the latter this week (the former is for a future episode).
So it's Bowie, Fad Gadget, Cabaret Voltaire, The Talking Heads, Simple Minds & Gang of Four. We slowly make our way to the synth-pop of Yazoo & Spandau Ballet. And hidden somewhere in there are two Belgian New Wave gems : De 2 Belgen (=The Two Belgians, cool name innit 😁) and Allez Allez. Enjoy !
