Weekly Beatmix that accompanies my substack newsletter. This week covering the story of New Beat, how it emerged and thrived. The mix is a sample of the emerging New Beat scene before the “commercial period” with some “commercial” options. Most of it, though, is from the category “obscure and ideal to use in a New Beat set”.
There are some prime examples of electronic body music songs, being slowed down. “Morocco” by Shock Tactix and the seminal ‘Flesh” by the Belgian EBM band A Split Second. Do listen to the original versions if you can, to hear the difference and you’ll be amazed. (Although in the case of a Split Second, the original might not be easy to find as the slow version is, by far, the most popular one)
The absolute gem is “Elle Et Moi” by Max Berlin. Max Berlin aka Jean-Pierre Cerrone is, as the name implies, the brother of the famous disco producer. The song is originally from 1978 but would become famous as one of the re-discovered obscure gems of the emerging New Beat.
