It’s cruel to be reminded of music thru death, suddenly compelled to relisten, reassess, surprised how long it has been since we last listened to a now-dead artist. This is my annual end-of-year celeb death toll. I rediscovered David Crosby’s mesmerizing solo work, finally listened to avant- classical composer George Crumb with his eerie, nightmarish sounds. Reappreciated Keith levene’s guitar. That Christine McVie was ever interesting to me was a surprise but discovered early blues by her & Fleetwood guitarist Peter Green – heart-wrenching. ALSO a drunk Serge Gainsbourg conversing with a drunk, hepped-up Jerry Lee Lewis. Dutch novelty single by Tony Bass who falls in love with Gina Lollobrigida long distance. The most interesting find was Aphrodite’s Child – Greek prog rock more interesting than Zappa & their concept album 666. It was fronted by Vangelis & Demis Roussos. I discovered the band through a low-rent Dutch TV station 192TV that plays = rare odd videos 24/7.
