The thing we forget each war, ever 3 years or so, is how much our sentiment is molded, our consent manufactured at the behest of war profiteers & to be against war is to be unpatriotic, seditious, insane.
“Can’t have catastrophe on the installment plan” • Annette Peacock
To preach peace is to be marginalized, suspected, ostracized – it happens every conflict & we see how war becomes normalized to be perpetual, the default, banal until the ante is pumped up in terms of collateral damage, jingoism & the supposed inevitability of doom that becomes self-fulfilling & the preachers of it self-aggrandizing & we're inevitably confronted the notion: War is entertainment is profit. The sad heroic task of music is to save us from ourselves. Doom can be undermined & wrecked by determined application of beautiful music & bird calls.
“In the mass media, being pro-war is portrayed as objective. Being antiwar is portrayed as being biased.” • Nate Solomon
