Wreck Melvin van Kirk 1248: The hyper-polymath Melvin van Peebles & leader of Cabaret Voltaire, indefatigable solo soundsmith & man of copious pseudonyms Richard H. Kirk [both RIP 21.09.21] skirted, cannibalized, hit & influenced the mainstream from a unique DIY outsider position, combining popular musics, politics & sounds that undermined easy listening, creating a new sound palette that will continue to inspire over time because their sound plumbed depths. They both featured heavily in my early WFMU shows, late 80s & their takes on the world as simulacrum remained necessary audio ammo until this very day.
