The summer, heat, humidity, shimmer, sometimes force you to step back, unwind, refuse overtime, a sentence not completed. Nature-enforced reflection, meditation, memories unfold into the present, following clouds, listening deep to a cut, the sway of the branch in a slight breeze, can I mock that bird call to confuse it? Watching sports for minutes not caring about the outcome. Will it ever rain again? Reading about how the overheated brain loses it’s capacity to reason & make accurate decisions – more [gun] violence, a heated argument, road rage. How many seek coolness in an AC environment which, alas, helps raise the outdoor temperature of the world. But I like the summer’s capacity to incapacitate, to leave you at the mercy of lethargy – but not for too long.
