This podcast describes types of psychotherapy and medication shown to be effective for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and what you can expect from your therapist. We cover the main types of psychotherapy---or "talk therapy"---for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) so that you can understand what treatment is really like. Learn about cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). We also discuss selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which are the most effective medications for PTSD. Psychotherapy and medication may each be used alone, or they may be used in combination to treat PTSD.
