An hour of pure Gnawa, curated by maâlems-master Rabii Harnoune & DJ'ed by selector extraordinaire V.B.Kuhl
Gnawa music is among Morocco’s richest and oldest continuous traditions. Moroccan Gnawa-master Rabii Harnoune’s mastery at the Guembri, a three-string lute, and Gnawa singing (a central aspect to the culture), has seen him play at world-class festivals in Essaouira, Fes, Marrakesh, and Casablanca – all spiritual centres for the genre.
To support the release of ‘GNAWA ELECTRIC LAUNE’, a the magical collaboration between Rabii Harnoune and Frankfurt electronic producer V.B.Kühl which was recorded at Achim Sauer’s 7V-Studio in Frankfurt, Rabii Harnoune & V.B. Kühl have put together this Gnawa Mix.
The melange of traditional North African Gnawa music and modern club sounds on ‘GNAWA ELECTRIC LAUNE’ results in a fascinating debut, with cross-cultural friction which is electric and otherworldly - you can check the whole album out at https://truthoughts.ffm.to/gnawael
