"I made a one-hour mix for Radio AlHara, the amazing online radio station based in Palestine, to celebrate the release of 'Yaygara'.
In this mix, I wanted to trace the eccentricity, drama, wit and emotional intensity of some of Türkiye’s most unforgettable female singers, whose voices and attitudes have resonated across generations.
Moving between disco, funk, arabesk and dramatic balladry, the mix features gems by Tülin Tan, Ajda Pekkan, Sezen Aksu, Nükhet Duru, Şehrazat, Nur Yoldaş and many more, in a journey shaped by longing (not always romantic - Ajda’s Petrol is quite literally about petrol), excess, rhythm and nostalgia. These songs feel deeply alive, carrying a sense of boldness, melancholia and theatricality, supported by rich, inventive arrangements that have always drawn me in.
Their sound, emotion and poetry have all inspired parts of 'Yaygara'." Merve Erdem
