DOWNLOAD Hip Hop 50 : 1990-1999 DJ Mix by Robert Luis .MP3

By Tru Thoughts
The second in the series celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop, featuring special Dubplates recorded for Robert from KRS One, Brand Nubian, Das EFX, Masta Ace, The Pharcyde, Jeru The Damaja, Camp Lo & Dead Prez, plus clips from classic 90’s films. Robert explains: “To narrow the choice for this mix I went for tunes that got good reactions at my weekly club night & that I still play out now. It shows how Hip Hop was developing lyrically, politically & sonically over the decade; DJ Premier, Large Professor, KRS One & De La Soul were pushing their sound forward. The early 90’s saw a new generation of producers - Pete Rock, Diamond D, The Beatnuts - changing the game. As the 90s progressed Jay Dee/J Dilla, Madlib & DJ Spinna pushed further. The mix reflects how I DJ’ed at that time. I'd buy doubles of the vinyl, play the instrumental and then the vocal versions, then drop in the original sample sources too.” Look out for the DJ mixes covering 2000-2009, 2010-2019 and a UK special.
