Description
The first in a series of DJ mixes by Robert Luis celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop. Focusing on 79-89 with the tunes in order of their release; a story of how Hip Hop developed sonically & lyrically over 79-89
Featuring clips of interviews with Cindy Campbell (who can be described as the first Hip Hop promoter), DJ Kool Herc & Coke La Rock, classic films Wild Style & Beat Street, one of the first mainstream USA news features on Hip Hop from 1981, Debbie Harry (Blondie), The Wire & Curb Your Enthusiasm & more. Plus special Dubplates, Edits, & Drops from Hip Hop icons.
Robert Luis: “I decided it should only be 1 or 2 songs per year but that was impossible for me to do. I needed other limits, so went for USA releases, including songs I absolutely loved when I first heard but still play out & listen to now, & tunes that I have great memories of DJing out at my club nights & gigs"
Check the mix & let us know any artists/songs you think are missing or songs that you 100% agree with.
