I do love the new album by Meshell Ndegeocello. With all it’s diversity from beginning to end. It’s called „The Omnichord Realbook“ and is out via Blue Note Records. Recall talking to her about influences and musical upbringing five years ago, when „Ventriloquism“ (Naive) was about to drop. She is one of a kind.
Swiss singer Fiona Grind kicking it off with a brilliant version of Wesseltoft/Endresen „You Call Me“, followed by the return of Espen Horne after almost 25 years. At first listen i thought it’s a new Galliano track, especially re. the chorus. And that’s not a bad thing. Listening a lot to Speaker’s Corner Quartet recently also - it’s that special London thing, evolved from an open mic night called Speakers Corner in Brixton, where the quartet delivered the beats and music for all the poets & mc’s. Also in the show the full length version of „Samba Dee (Come and Dance with me)“ which got me dancing through the studio at 30 plus degrees on that warm summer night.
