Rubén opens his #65.2 with an intentional title rooted in Greek mythology, specifically in The Odyssey, the epic poem attributed to Homer.
Calipso is the nymph who welcomes shipwrecked Odysseus to her island. She keeps him there for years and promises him eternal life. Eventually, she lets him go and returns to her isolation and solitude as a permanent existence.
Drexler also speaks about solitude in the song that opens the mix, treating it almost as another character we learn to live with.
Rubén asked me whether we don’t also live on that metaphorical island when we isolate ourselves emotionally, and how immersive experiences like music and dance can help us move through solitude.
