Welcome to number 77 in the Oblivion Funk series. In this mixtape, DJ GhostNotes decided to make it ALL about the year 1977, which coincides to the year of his birth also.
Every song that was chosen was released in that year, as well as a bunch of quirky TV commercials from the late 70’s sprinkled in to give you a real feeling of the closing of one era and the birth of a new one. You get a real sense that black music was shifting from the gritty James Brown inspired funk breaks to more of a Disco feel, particularly in the US.
There have been hundreds if not thousands of amazing songs recorded that year, but the selection in this mix is centred around tracks that really tell a story of the times in some way or another. From Japan to Brazil, Bronx to Philadelphia this is just a taste of the year 1977.
