The Third Groove Layering kick upon kick... it is something that inevitably makes us conscious of "time." When the grid shifts and a polyrhythmic puzzle forms, the DJ’s true essence—"frequency adjustment"—begins. From two successfully tuned records, that "Third Groove"—which wouldn't otherwise exist—emerges. There is a sensuality in pitches gradually aligning; a gradation from imperfection to harmony. The physical pitch-drift creates a transition from friction to liberation, a moment that makes the crowd cry out. For this catharsis, the DJ’s ego must be cast aside. By shedding the performer’s skin and abandoning artifice, something true resides. There is no guarantee of success, yet by diving into the sonic abyss, a space created by "fragments of sound" stripped of gravity and floating in the air awaits. This is the ultimate innovation, the origin, and the destination of dance music.
