Dem Freunde

Wie schnell entflieht des Lebens Mai,
Wie eilet Stund' an Stund' vorbei
In's graue Zeitengrab!
Ach, Kindesunschuld, Jugendlust
Entgleiten aus der warmen Brust
Mit jeder Stund' hinab!

Vergebens, Wilhelm, flüchtet wohl
Von Land zu Land, von Pol zu Pol
Das arme Menschenherz,
Bis, von dem Wintersturm' bewegt,
Es seine letzte Freude lege
Zu seinem letzten Schmerz.

Doch unsre Freundschaft weichet nie,
Tief in der Seele wohnet sie
Und trotzet jeder Zeit:
Mag denn die Jugendfreude fliehn,
Mag jede Blume uns verblühn:
Sie hält in Ewigkeit!
Peter van Bohlen
