What Is Jazz? with The Tempest (Season 2: Episode 8)

What is Jazz? Is it freedom, is it tradition, is it alive, does it continue to evolve and thrive or is it an art form stuck in time?

I'm very pleased to have one of my most favourite selectors on Mixcloud, The Tempest joining me (https://www.mixcloud.com/The_Tempest/). For me his series 'The Jazz Tempest' has been one of the most inspiring, insightful, beautiful and truly well presented series on Mixcloud.

The Tempest: 'What is Jazz? Simple to ask, hard to answer. I thought I'd keep it to what it means to me. Man... I just the love the blues. Most of the jazz I play has a blues influence. I start with a couple of my favorite artists, followed by a couple of younger artists...I then fall back to the 90s and the vibrant acid jazz scene in San Francisco. Watching Charlie Hunter early in his career really had an impact on my love of jazz. Leon Parker another artist that really made me get into jazz early on. Lastly, Ninja Tune, a label that had a profound musical affect on me.
