As a professional Dj, my first love has always been funk, both new and old and particularly that raw, soulful and funky sound made by studios such as Stax and Muscle Shoals.
I came to the funk from growing up listening to Hip Hop and seeking out those original breaks, but I also came to it via the Soul music pumping out of my mum's radio and records.
This mix is not about classic funk and soul though, as all of the tracks are recent and span artists and groups from the UK to Australia, but all have one thing in common, they to felt the pull of the funk and that soulful bump, that baseline on the 'one', that soulful scream and that 'mean' drum break that makes your heart pump and your rump jump.
