Hi All, this is Pt.1 of a mix that was recorded live at Baby Driver Melbourne on 27 June 2025 during a 4.5 Hour set.
The venue is wonderful, in a small laneway and in an historic building in Melbourne, the fitout, decor, Mexican Menu, wine and cocktail list and service is impeccable and over the last 5 gigs I have played there it is full each week with often a line to get in.
The music brief is 70s jazz and deep funk and I play from 7.30pm-12am usually, so start at dinner time and hence I like to keep the music mellow, soulful and at times funky for the first hour or so as I slowly build the bpms and weave these tunes together.
The music I play is not background but a feature of your experience at Baby Driver, so the volume is good and the lights low.
For me this gig is a real opportunity to go back to where I started as a DJ, playing funk and soul 45s alongside my jazz 45s with blaxploitation sounds weaved in & I let the 45s breath and the music tell it's own story.
