KNON Radio Dallas is a community-powered, non-commercial radio station with roots dating back to 1981, when it first signed on the air as a listener-supported alternative to commercial radio. Founded to give a voice to independent artists, underserved communities, and non-mainstream music, KNON quickly became known for its wide range of specialty programming and deep commitment to cultural diversity.
Broadcasting at 89.3 FM from North Texas, KNON has spent decades championing local musicians, preserving musical traditions, and providing educational and public-interest programming. Operated by volunteers and supported by the community, the station has remained independent and non-profit, staying true to its mission of free-form radio and creative expression. Over the years, KNON has grown into a respected cultural institution in Dallas, continuing to connect generations of listeners through music, history, and community engagement.
