Carole King Klein (born February 9, 1942) is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter and musician. She wrote or co-wrote 118 Billboard Hot 100 hits and 61 UK chart entries, making her the most successful female songwriter on the UK singles charts from 1962 to 2005. In the 1960s, she and Gerry Goffin penned over two dozen hits for other artists. She launched her solo career in the 1970s with Writer (1970), followed by Tapestry (1971), which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks and remained on the charts for over six years. King has released 25 solo albums and sold over 75 million records worldwide. Her honours include four Grammy Awards, induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, dual inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the 2013 Gershwin Prize (as its first female recipient), and the 2015 Kennedy Centre Honours.
