GURU (Indonesian for “teacher”) is an experimental music band based in Bandung, formed in 2019 by educators from various backgrounds: Mira Rizki, Bayu Pratama, Fahma Rosmansyah, and Gazza Ryandika.
GURU embraces the concept of situational practice in their performances, navigating both tonal and atonal sound compositions. This concept shapes how they respond musically to the dynamics of the space, audience, and moment.
The band regards everyday activities—such as cooking, reading a newspaper, or other routine gestures—when intertwined into their performances, as authentic, spontaneous, and generative musical practices. These acts become a medium to communicate their sound and thoughts, rooted in the present moment.
