1) The Joe Meek Story ‘Holloway Dreams’:(2010)
Tom Robinson recounts the sad story of the extraordinary British record producer Joe Meek, whose hits included Telstar by The Tornadoes.
Born Robert George Meek on 5 April 1929 in Newent, Gloucestershire, Joe became Britain's premier independent record producer in the early 60s.
He was renowned for his pioneering recording techniques and eccentric personality as for the futuristic sounds he created.
2) The Release of Telstar
In 2004 Stuart Maconie looked back at an momentous event in pop music, the release of Joe Meek's Telstar.
An incredibly futuristic sounding pop single, it marked the launch of the Russian satellite (which, in itself, had rocked the western world).
It pre-empted Kraftwerk, the Human League, Pet Shop Boys et al by decades and pointed a new way forward for pop.
