Episode 153 / Original versions of songs made famous by other artists

We’ve already done shows where the songs were popularized by the likes of Elvis, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, but tonight we present the best of the rest… original versions of songs that became more famous by other artists! The hit version of the song you remember may well have been performed previously by the songwriter (case in point, All Along the Watchtower or Black Magic Woman), and it’s possible that well-known songs had an earlier incarnation that later became acclaimed by an established band or singer. But as the saying goes, “it’s the *second* mouse that gets the cheese,” so here are early examples of songs we all know which became much more popular the second time around!
