Dr Vernon Johnson Mwaanga is one of Zambia's renown diplomats and politicians, in October 1964 he became the nation's first diplomat as deputy high commisioner to London. Dr Mwaanga’s career spans over a number of decades holding several positions ranging from cabinet minister, diplomat, newspaper Editor in Chief, and national intelligence chief. He also had a few years in the business community as chairman of the Zambian subsidiary of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) and the Zambia Industrial and Commercial Association (ZINCOM). Dr Mwaanga was a founding member of the Movement for Multi Party Democracy, after the party's victory in 1991 elections he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1991 to 1994. He was minister of Information from 1999 to 2002, after the 2006 elections he was reinstated as Minister of Information until his resignation in 2002.
