This is somewhat-annual going-to-NYC show expresses my love-hate relationship with the place. Having spent perhaps too many years here it took me a while to recover from the relationship. Here I'm proud to juxtapose some fairly odd NY-related tunes or sounds like a bouquet of wild flowers... Yoko, Nina Simone & especially Stephen Vitiello's sound study of the WTC a yr or 2 prior to 9-11, capturing the sounds one hears on the 91st floor. Also critical songs inc. Gil Scott-Heron [RIP], James Brown, and quintessential NY rockers Suicide, & its not complete w/o some unruly Lounge Lizards jazz, also feature Amy Winehouse who just passed into ether and performed on Letterman. But the Moody Boyz remix is genius. Best finds inc. Moondog and Xavier Cugat track!! & Harlem Yodel by Dandridge Sisters & Cats & the Fiddle – sublime! & the Edward Norton F#*k NY rant ...
