Join Macca on the WOH Radio Stage as he takes an hour at We Out Here to pay homage to the life and sounds of Terry Callier. Callier’s music eludes easy description; cosmic and spiritual, it also bears the influence of gospel and soul, yet synthesizes its disparate elements in unprecedented and breathtaking ways. Despite recording since 1963 and having regional hits, Callier struggled to gain the recognition his talents deserved but released notable albums for Cadet under the guidance of Charles Stepney.
In 1983, he retired from music to support his daughter, studying computer programming and working at the University of Chicago from 1984. Despite commercial challenges, his work left a lasting impact and saw a revival in the UK during the 1990s through the acid-jazz movement with notable releases on Talkin’ Loud and Mr Bongo.
