Description
Paul Bradshaw is founder of Straight No Chaser, with a record collection that matches the depth and variety of his iconic magazine.
This month's Straight No Chaser show is exploring the musical legacy of Jumbo Vanrenen who recently passed away in Cape Town. Arriving in London in the early Seventies Jumbo was a prime mover behind the release of music from South African exiles Dudu Pukwana, Mongezi Feza and Julian Bahula. He was the driving force behind Virgin's Front Line reggae label and worked with John Lydon and the Sex Pistols. Upon leaving Virgin he co-initiated the Earthworks label with Trevor Herman releasing African classics from Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, Thomas Mapfumo and Shina Williams amongst others. His role in globalising African music is impossible to quantify.
Paul B will be joined in the studio by Trevor Herman and Dave Hucker for a modern history lesson with some deep music.
