Description
Born in Shanghai in 1951, Alexander Gordin, aka Lanny, is the son of a Polish mother and a Russian father. He lived in Israel until he was six, when he moved to Brazil. His father was the owner of Stardust, a nightclub where Lanny used to perform still as a minor, with Hermeto Pascoal, Heraldo do Monte, Paulinho da Costa and Pepeu Gomes, among others. In late 60's and early 70's he recorded on some of the most important albums from Tropicália, working with artists like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Rita Lee, Erasmo Carlos and more. During Gal Costa's -Fa-tal- tour, in 1971, João Gilberto told him in the backstage: "You are very talented. Keep playing according to your style."
Regarded as one of the most important guitarists in Brazilian music, Lanny turns 70 today, and we celebrate his legacy with a special two hour selection of his sounds.
