Gilles Peterson presents the premiere of 'Cape Town Sounds', an audio documentary exploring the music of the city and what makes it unique.
As part of Lufthansa's City of the Month campaign, Gilles travelled to Cape Town in early February, and spent a day skimming the surface of the various musical movements of the city. He heard about the indigenous music of the Khoisan bushmen to Cape jazz, 80s kwaito and bubblegum pop to hip hop and spoken word, all the way through to today’s burgeoning electronic music scene.
To celebrate the premiere, Gilles is joined live in the studio by Cape Town-native Esa, who acted as local guide on the trip.
Gilles and Esa also hosted a Worldwide FM radio broadcast live from Cape Town, featuring many of the guests from the documentary, which you can listen to below.
