VibeRide: Mix Eighty Six

Due to recent events, this mix ended up becoming a tribute to Johnny Kemp, Ben E. King and the one and only Louis Johnson, who have all passed away recently. Some terrific music here, including some delightfully funky stuff from Ben E. King, which I only discovered researching this mix. What else can said about Louis Johnson that hasn't already been said? One half of familial funksters the Brothers Johnson, of course, who had great success in their own right. He was also one of Quincy Jones's production team throughout the seventies and eighties, laying down some incredible bass lines on so many hits - and working with a host of other great artists. Louis Johnson was a supreme talent who made a wonderful contribution to the golden age of jazz-funk, soul and disco.
