As we approach the 4th Annual Indie Soap Awards — think Emmys for your favorite web-based serials — Soaps In Depth’s executive editor, Richard M. Simms, hosts a series of chats with some of the brilliant minds who thrive in the genre.
For years, television has been populated by pretty people doing ugly things. The Carringtons of DYNASTY. The Ewings of DALLAS. The “real” housewives of everywhere. Tonight, we chat with Michael Caruso, the creator and headwriter of DeVANITY, the web soap which puts the fun back in dysfunctional. As the show heads into the final two episodes of its much-ballyhooed third season, we ask what he’s learned along the way, where he sees the show going in the future and why poor Bianca can’t catch a break! Plus, find out which episode so far has been his favorite, and how he walks the fine line between drama and comedy without veering into the tricky territory of camp.
