DOWNLOAD Hip Hop 50 : 2000-2009 DJ Mix by Robert Luis .MP3

By Tru Thoughts
The third in the series of DJ mixes celebrating US Hip Hop. Played in chronological order, the mix covers tunes Robert was playing at the Tru Thoughts Brighton club residency Phonic Hoop, in guest DJ sets at clubs and festivals in the UK and abroad, and on Unfold - it's a reflection of what was actually being played at the time. This was a time where the major labels were wanting more pop with the Hip Hop (but beat wise The Neptunes, Missy Elliot and others were pushing boundaries) and the independent scene was talking about real life. Every now and then these worlds crossed but far less than in the 90’s. J Dilla, DJ Premier and MF DOOM were continuing their amazing journeys (it was hard to pick which tunes to include). The mix also feature snippets of classic shows from the 2000’s such as The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Wire. If you have not done so, do check the previous two DJ mixes - Hip Hop 50 : 1979-1989 and 1990-1999. The UK one is being worked on too!
