Summer in the city. Young New York is old again. This one’s for the cool cats bringing their Copacabana vibe to Coney Island. The Café Atlas Obscura is serving Big Apple boogie and beat-the-heat ambient from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Discovering Kitschy Spirit Records was an early summer highlight—where I snagged a Special Species Records comp, a Michigan-based label out of L’Anse with ties to Calumet. It shimmers with floaty ambient textures, right in step with recent chillout releases from the Numero Group.
