It was really sad news to hear about Gil Scott-Heron passing away. My introduction to him came via Hip Hop and the artists I liked referencing him. Then as I've DJ'ed out over the years I gradually found lots of big tunes I was playing were sampling him. Lyrically he was amazing, deeply political but with a great sense of humour, Public Enemy did that, but needed both Chuck D and Flava Flav.....Gil Scott-Heron did it all on his own and played the keys too!
This mix has a mixture of new and classic and old and also a few of the tunes that were influenced by him.
