The Story this week finds the Israelites in one of its lowest places. The kingdom that David had established has been destroyed. They have been sent away from the promised land by the Babylonians. All they thought and imagined for themselves had changed drastically. I imagine for many, not only was their land gone but, their hope was gone as well.
Hopelessness. It’s an awful place to be, but it is a place that we too frequently travel. Even Dr. Seuss in his book, Oh The Places You’ll Go, has this line “All alone! Whether you like it or not, alone is something you’ll be quite a lot!”
But the Israelites were not alone, and the truth is neither are you. Because with our God even though we may feel hopeless or alone, we are never alone and we are never without hope. Our scripture this week finds us in Ezekiel 37 and the beautiful story and hope of the “Valley of the Dry Bones.”
