Performance and queerness have gone hand in hand for many decades with the LGBTQ community's connection to 1970s disco being common knowledge - but in the current day climate of rising homophobic and transphobic sentiments there is a vibrant and politically active underground scene of queer punks who challenge the proto-fascist popular media through sound, be it mockery, parody, anger, pride, or some mix of all four!... But some of these sounds seem eerily familiar, with tones akin to 80s and 90s rock and yet you might struggle to place it. With the help of myself, DJ and proud queer punk GIRLDICK, we'll be taking a dive through some of the queercore gold that was seemingly side-lined for it's unapologetic politically charged pro-queer messaging that wasn't afraid to relish in filth and perversion.
