This month’s Naptime sees NO ICONS, the new project from Rainer Veil’s Liam Morley, taking us on a whistle stop tour of the Lisbon underground. Having moved to the city from Manchester back before the pandemic, Liam’s already strong affinity with the electronic music of the Lusophone world has only deepened since, eventually resulting in the formation of NO ICONS. Rainer Veil fans will find plenty of familiar reference points in this new project - the same vaporising of source material, running synths thru hissing effects pedals & layered re-sampling are all present - but now infused with the Funk & Batida influences. This mix supplements unreleased NO ICONS demos - an album is forthcoming on Manchester’s Modern Love label - with music from artists associated with Lisbon’s Living Room ambient club night, Porto’s Polyester label, forward-thinking Funk from Rio & São Paulo & unreleased Príncipe tracks.
