This month's episode of Tropic Of Love is dedicated to the legendary jazz pianist and composer Kenny Barron, who is still active today. Born in Pennsylvania, he was playing with Philly Joe Jones at only 18 years old, before moving on to work with Roy Haines, Lee Morgan, James Moody, and Dizzy Gillespie. It was with Dizzy’s band that he developed his interest in Latin and Caribbean sounds, and later played with Cecil McBee, Elvin Jones George Benson, Yusef Lateef and Ron Carter. He recorded as a band leader and as a sideman for labels such as Verve, Vanguard, Blue Note and Atlantic among many others.
