Transmissions with King Britt – Transmission #31: Universal Language, Part 2

Earlier this year, King Britt unveiled Universal Language, Part 1, a vinyl-only celebration of the human spirit combining field recordings with indigenous music from around the world. This month, he’s back with another installment of the series, this time with a special focus on the music of Africa and its diaspora, but without the found sounds. Tune in for awe-inspiring music from Wassouli vocalists like Nahawa Doumbia and Oumou Sangaré from Mali; Senegalese singer and guitarist Baaba Maal; and the Maroon people, one of the earliest free black communities of Jamaica. There’s even a song by a choir of schoolchildren from the Abayudaya, a historically Jewish community from Eastern Uganda.
