Description
Every week on Top Flight, journalist Chal Ravens picks the best new tracks from the world of bass, breaks and riddims, tracing the connections between gqom, grime, ballroom, B’more, dancehall, jungle and more. On the first episode of the new year, she’s joined by London-based experimental artist Nkisi, who’s about to release an album of polyrhythmic Congolese percussion music on the UIQ label. The former NON Worldwide affiliate tells Chal about the making of _7 Directions_, its roots in African cosmology and her fascination with psychoacoustics. As well as that, Chal hoovers up the seasonal releases and pick out gems from the recent avalanche of label compilations, with new music from Murlo, Om Unit, D. Tiffany, Martyn Bootyspoon, Pinch, Kym Sugiru and CD_RM.
