Description
This month on Tokyo Tangents we enter the world of Japanese jazz funk from the late '70s to the 1980s. Many Japanese jazz musicians experimented with funk during this era, especially with electronic bass, synths and drum machines, while mixing American funk with Japanese traditional music. For the next two hours we listen to Japan's jazz musicians testing their limits, with players such as Terumasa Hino, Kazumi Watanabe, Jun Fukamachi and Yoriyuki Harada all challenging the boundaries of expression.
